Barcelona want Lionel Messi to sign a new deal before the summer.
The Argentina international’s current contract expires in 2018 and Barca are growing concerned their star man could quit.
But they will have to up their price to keep the 29-year-old after he snubbed their initial offer.
That is according to Spanish newspaper AS, who claim a contract worth up to £30m each year has been declined.
Messi has no shortage of suitors, with clubs in China and potentially the Premier League opens to singing him.
Paris Saint-Germain are also said to consider Messi a transfer target if he became available.
Wayne Rooney’s £300,000-a-week contract at Manchester United remains the largest contract in England but Messi appears to want at least double that.
Barca bosses have previously admitted they could struggle to meet Messi’s demands, with the club constrained to spending no more than 70 per cent of their revenues on player wages.
Negotiations over a fresh deal are said to be ongoing, with he expectation that both camps can reach an agreement soon.
