Neymar urges “idol” Lionel Messi to renew Barcelona contract

Barcelona star Neymar believes it is time for the club to work on extending Lionel Messi‘s contract in order to keep his “idol” at Camp Nou for years to come.
Messi is out of contract in 2018 with the Catalan giants and the 29-year-old is yet to sign fresh terms, with reports this week suggesting he actually turned down the club’s most recent offer.
The Argentina captain, who has been with Barcelona for the entirety of his senior career, is regarded by many as the greatest player of all time, but there is a growing feeling he may be keen to try his luck away from the La Liga giants.
Not many clubs can afford Messi’s services, but with his deal due to expire next year, Neymar believes it is crucial the club start acting on the issue at hand and extend the forward’s deal.
“I have been here with Leo for four years, and I am learning every day: how to strike the ball, how to be alert during matches. Messi is from another planet,” Neymar told beIN Sports. “He is an idol and a friend with whom I have the luck to train every day.
“I hope that he renews, and that the people at Barca get to work so Leo can continue with us.”
Messi has scored a stunning 35 goals in 32 La Liga games this season, more than any other player across Europe’s top five leagues.
