Argentina and Barcelona legend Lionel Messi has spoken of his visit to Egypt this week in support of a health campaign.
The record-breaking forward visited the North African country on Tuesday as part of a campaign to encourage Hepatitis C patients to seek treatment in Egypt.
“It’s great to be at the Pyramids. It was a great moment when I entered the Pyramid and touched its stones,” Messi told ON E, as quoted by KingFut.
“I have touched Egypt’s greatness and knew how the ancients have lived, it’s a brilliant moment to watch the history closely. In school I learned about Egypt and I know how great it is.
“The visit was fast so I can’t talk about Cairo, but I know it has a great history. I wish to know it better someday.”
This was Messi’e second visit to Egypt, having been part of the Barcelona team which beat local giants Al Ahly 4-0 in a friendly match in 2007.
“I have visited Egypt before with Barcelona to play a game here in 2007, but I can’t remember the match score,” Messi added.
“I don’t mind trying the Egyptian food while I am here.”
