All is not right at Camp Nou, as Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique and striker Luis Suarez have hit out at comments made by Barcelona CEO Oscar Grau.
Grau appeared to indicate that Barcelona are attempting to play a bit of hard ball when it comes to negotiating a new contract with Lionel Messi.
Messi is out-of-contract at Barcelona at the end of the 2017/18 season and to many in the footballing world it's a no brainer to sign him up to a new contract, whatever the terms.
Messi currently earns a reported €423,000-a-week after tax. Any new deal would see that improved and almost certainly above and beyond the figure of €480,000-a-week as that is what both Neymar and Luis Suarez have reportedly agreed in their new contracts.
Offer a Messi something along the lines of a three-year-contract and Barcelona are looking at a figure of around €75million.
Messi's worth to Barcelona is far greater than a figure in that region over the next three years, but Barcelona must also balance the books and not overspend, especially in regards to wages which are capped by La Liga regulations.
This led to the following comments that have somewhat annoyed Enrique and Suarez.
'The club wants the best player in the world to stay at Barca. I would like to ease the concerns of club members and supporters but we have to use common sense.' Grau said.
In response Suarez has been quoted by Spanish newspaper Marca as saying: 'Messi is the best player in the world, what has to be done is that the club needs to renew his contract and to not use common sense,'
Whilst Enrique told Sport: 'I don`t know what [Grau] said because as you know I don't read or watch anything, but it's very clear: tell me a game when Lionel Messi`s not been decisive,
'So, that. I hope he`s here for a long time and many more years. I hope the fans keep enjoying him. There`s no-one like him. He`s not only unique in terms of goals, but also in making his teammates better.'
