Barcelona legend Xavi has backed his former teammate Lionel Messi to see out the remainder of his career at the club.
The 29-year-old signed his last contract extension in May 2014 and currently has one-and-a-half years left on his current deal at the Nou Camp.
Messi has previously spoken about retiring at hometown club Newell’s Old Boys based in Rosario, Argentina, but Xavi sees things differently.
“I’m in contact with Messi and I see him happy,” Xavi said in a conversation with Spanish radio Cadena Cope, as reported by the ESPN.
“I haven’t spoken to him about his contact extension but he knows that Barcelona is the best club in the world for him and I don’t see him in any other club.
“If I had to bet, I wouldn’t [bet] on seeing Messi in another club.”
