Lionel Messi celebrates birthday with his family as Barcelona star thanks supporters for their well-wishes

 

Barcelona star Lionel Messi turned 30 on Saturday and wrapped up his birthday weekend by spending time with his family.

The Argentine took to Instagram to share a poignant snap of himself, long-term girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo, and son Thiago with a Barca-themed cake.

'Ending the birthday,' he wrote alongside the image. 'Many thanks to everyone for the greetings.'

Messi and Roccuzzo have been together since 2008, they have another son named Mateo and are expected to marry later this year.

The global superstar's agent has revealed his client could have joined Real Madrid instead of Barcelona when he was 13.

'Due to life circumstances, I went to live in Barcelona and I brought him to Barca for a trial. But I was about to live in Madrid,' Horacio Gaggioli explained.

'If that had happened, I would have taken him to Madrid for a trial. That's life, those are the details.

'Today, Messi could have been a Real Madrid player, of course. The family wanted to come to Spain, to the city where I was to have some support.'
