Juventus defender Dani Alves has revealed he told former team-mate Neymar that he ‘has to move on’ after the Barcelona striker broke down in tears following the club’s Champions League exit.
Neymar, 25, was distraught after Juventus completed a 3-0 aggregate win over the Catalans after they executed a 0-0 draw in the second leg at the Camp Nou on Wednesday night.
The Brazilian striker was seen with tears in his eyes following the game but he was quickly consoled by Alves, who spent eight trophy-laden years at the club before joining the Old Lady.
And Alves has admitted he told Neymar to forget about the defeat and also revealed he would have preferred to have not faced his former side.
‘I told him that this is football, that’s just the way it is,’ said Alves.
‘I already told him that I didn’t want to take on Barcelona for all that we had gone through together, but that in these situations you have to leave feelings aside.
‘Everyone defended their club colours and Neymar needn’t be sad. It’s just a defeat and he has to move on.’
